Certain Philosophies that Constitute the Standards of Conduct

In the corporate world, how employees treat themselves and their co-employees depends largely on their concept on what conduct is and the responsibilities that go with it. However, what people do not know is that there is a great distinction between code of ethics and standards of conduct. Generally speaking, the standards of conduct seeks to go into details of each part in the code of ethics, in an approach which support strength of mind of whether or not definite activities of an employee or the employer may be considered as “unethical.”

Many people are confused in differentiating codes of ethics and standards of conduct. For quite some time, the tow had been inseparable. This is because standards of conduct and code of ethics both adhere to matters that are prone to rulings and are complicated to assert completely. In constructing the standards of conduct, there is a process, which features the steps that the labor force will adhere to when deciding whether a breach or an infringement of the rules of the company has taken place or not. In the event that such infringements had taken place, the standards of conduct will also determine the kinds of disciplinary actions suited for every violation. It will also determine under what conditions the data will be made public.

Moreover, the code of ethics pertains more directly to the set of principles to which the employees as well as the employers adhere. On the other hand, the standards of conduct are projected to be more practicably enforceable.

In connection with these, it is extremely important for every company to establish rational “enforcement procedures” as well. This is to support the standards of conduct, as well as code of ethics, with apparent, methodical, logical implementations. This is patterned to the desires of the company to punish members of their organization who have defied the standards of conduct.

For this reason, it is also important for a company to create and establish enforcement procedures in a well-balanced nature where the parties concerned are fully gratified. Through the standards of conduct, companies must guarantee that there will be no proceedings that are put into practice in a subjective or spiteful approach.

Like law, every individual who have been subjected for some possible punishment in accordance to the violation of the standards of conduct is entitled for some preliminary investigations that will embody the proper proceedings prior to the rendering of decisions.

In turn, this will create a fair and balanced implementation of the said set of standards of conduct. One must always remember that the creation of standards of conduct does not primarily provide the company or any individual in authority to instantly render malicious decisions without hearing the side first of the person concerned.

Given all these facts, it can be finally deduced that the standards of conduct modify not only the power of operation but also the person himself who is the subject of such power. Standard of conduct is considered to be in conformity with right reason and, therefore, is good.
